Writing Interuppted

Hi, I'm back (waving at everyone furiously).
Sorry it's been so long since my last post but I've been gutting my kitchen, and boy did it need it. I don't have pictures of before we started but here's one when we took the cupboards off of the wall:

Yukky, right!

Anyway, after many days and evenings of work I finally have the kitchen I want (the first time ever I've had a brand new kitchen) - here it is:

 

 

It is nice to have a room that feels warmer and looks clean when I've tidied up.

 

So that has kept me busy and I've hardly had time to write. 

 

A funny thing though, I took my notepad to my doctors appointment because she's never on time. I got half an hour of writing done before my name came over the speaker; stuffing it into my bag I never gave it a thought until the next time I found five minutes and guess what? - I'd stopped in the  middle of a word. All writers are used to getting stopped in the middle of a paragraph or even a sentence but to return weeks later in the middle of a word, I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry. I chose laughter.

 

Slowly I'm clawing back some writing time and with a novel and two short stories on the go, plus a short story to edit, I need it.

 

 

Well, that's all for now. Just wanted to let you know I hadn't abandoned you.

Elemental Friends



JANALYA

 



 Janalya had to leave her parents at a young age to go and live in the air elemental settlement of Anilthar. Here she could be trained in her new powers.

Enlil is the last in this trio of friends. Although slightly older than the girls, he is still trying to master being an air elemental when Janalya first arrives. Whilst training with the others the lessons finally make sense, and together they learn how to manage their powers. Enlil an Sulee fall in love and they pledge their lives to one another before Janalya is sent on her quest.

Inspired but not sure GK Chesterton would be amused.

I was watching Father Brown on tv last night, my son, who had been on his laptop, shut it down and started watching too. My husband joined us just as a character was discovered dead. Nothing unusual in that considering the stories involve murder but what was unfortunate was the character's name and where he died. That led to much hilarity and the penning of a silly story - let me explain.

The character was Edward but everybody called him Ned. Ned was discovered on his bed with a gunshot wound to his head - Can you see where this is going? You're right -so here it is the story of Ned's demise courtesy of my teenage son, will bits lobbed in by my husband (and, okay I admit it, me too).

Ned's dead in his bed, shot in the head.
It must be said that he did bled red (yes I know that's not good grammar but it fitted)
He was found by Ted after the killer fled.
If you want to take the body, first lightly tread, after being fed a slice of bread.
Take the body on a sled and hide it in the shed.

Complete silliness, but it kept us entertained. Whilst all authors are pleased if their work inspires others to write I'm not sure GK Chesterton would agree - so to him, I apologise.

The series is well worth watching, although I may only watch from now on whilst I'm alone.

Finale

I was looking forward to this release since finishing the second novel and I have to say, wow! Jennifer Loiske outdid herself with the thrilling end to the McLean Twins' story! The book starts dark, and carries you through the final instalment, making you want to stick to the pages and follow along every discovery with both twins, wanting good to triumph over evil and Shannon and Ian to finally be able to go home and see their father and not the demon he is becoming. It was a fast paced ride, highs and lows, tears and smiles and I loved every page of it! Excellent end, perfectly crafted and one that will keep you reading for days until you find the very end. Meet The Pack

A group of shapeshifters have left their village and gone rogue.

You Can't Do It

Has anybody said those words to you - "You can't do it/that." How did they make you feel? Because after all, what they're really saying is that you're not capable of doing it. Did it make you stubborn, determined to do it to prove them wrong? Well, that's good. But what about if you believed those words? Were they just another statement in a long line of put downs that chipped away at your self confidence? Think how that would feel.

What can be done? You can grow a thick skin and not believe them, but seriously, how likely is it that that's really going to help? I know, not going to happen, is it?

What else then?

How about changing just one letter and apostrophe?

You Can Do It.

Look at the difference taking those out make. Now a negative statement is a positive one.

There will always be some things that people can't do, but we have to try for ourselves first. We don't need someone else telling us that we can't do it, but someone giving us encouragement and telling us we can, that's worth much more than stubborn determination.

So be sure to say "You can do it" to someone today or if it is yourself that needs telling "I can do it."  And you can - I believe it you.
